Facial Skin Analysis – How it works

We use our Facial Skin Analysis machine to take a picture of your face to map out your skin type and measure for spots, wrinkles, texture, pores, UV spots, brown spots, red areas and porphyrins. We use this to measure the best cause of action for your situation and our friendly staff will talk with you about your options and what YOU would like to do.

There are 5 basic skin types:

  • Normal
  • Dry
  • Oily
  • Sensitive
  • Combination of the above

Normal skin – Is characterized by exactly how it sounds. Continue using your face care regime and products that aren’t harsh on your skin. As well as healthy eating habbits.

Oily skin – Is characterized by oily feeling skin with enlarged pores and has open and closed comedones.Which are small skin-coloured bumps called papules. These things make your skin more prone to milia, pustules, and more prone to acne than with dry skin. Making acne scarring more likely. A common characteristic of oily skin is white head, black head and blind(headless) pimples. Certain products can cause oily skin such as incorrect moisturizers for your skin type, what make up you’re using and diet.  It is also worth noting that it can be a result of hormones in younger people or even medication affecting your hormones in adults. It is best to consult with your health care provider regarding medications if this is a concern for you.

Dry skin – Is characterized by the opposite of oily skin. It has no comedones and has a red, taut, patchy surface. Sometimes dry skin can be a result of other factors, such as face care products you’re using, seasonal and medication. It is best to consult with your health care provider regarding medications if this is a concern for you.

Sensitive skin – Is characterized by redness and irritation. The irritation can also be due environmental factors such as sun, season, smoke or even pollution. It can also be irritated by certain products you may be using and medications you may be taking. It is best to consult with your health care provider regarding medications if this is a concern for you.

Combination – Is characterized by a combination of the above, such as sensitive and dry, sensitive and oily skin etc. It is very common and many factors can be the cause as mentioned above.

If any of the above is a concern for you, come in and talk to our friendly staff and we can go from there.
